In Case You Missed It:  The Center for Minority Veterans is sharing recent news stories that may be of interest to minority Veterans, service members, and their supporters on a weekly basis.

Transgender Day of Visibility is observed March 31. This observance honors the transgender community, their contributions to society and acknowledges the hardships they may face. According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), members of the LGBTQ+ community are nearly four times as likely to experience sexual violence as non-LGBTQ+ people. Research shows that this community tends to thrive when they are affirmed and supported from youth through adulthood. [From VA News]

VA’s Center for Minority Veterans (CMV) partnered with PrideVA, VA’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group, to host 36 LGBTQ+ Veterans, families, caregivers and survivors for a fireside chat in honor of Transgender Day of Visibility at Department of Veterans Affairs headquarters in Washington, DC. Hosting the chat, I sat down with CMV’s Executive Director James Albino and the 17th Assistant Secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Admiral Rachel L.
