In Case You Missed It:  The Center for Minority Veterans is sharing recent news stories that may be of interest to minority Veterans, service members, and their supporters on a weekly basis.

This week’s Honoring Veterans Spotlight honors the service of Army Veteran Howard Brown, who served during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1969 and the Gulf War from 1969 to 1992. Howard Brown was born in Paxville, South Carolina, in 1946. He accredits his father’s role in teaching him self-discipline and determination that made his road to the military easier. He graduated high school in 1964 and committed to his plan of joining the Army right after graduation. [From VA News]

As a Veteran, you understand better than anyone the courage, skill and dedication it takes to serve in the military. Today, we’re turning the spotlight on a group of servicemen who not only displayed these same qualities in abundance, but also broke barriers and paved the way for future generations. They are the Tuskegee Airmen, also known as the “Red Tails” of the 332nd Fighter Group. [From VA News]

Air Force Veteran Ares Paige has been doing a lot of interviews about his work with the homeless and LGBTQ+ communities. As a black, transgender man, Paige knows the power of seeing someone who looks like you when you often feel invisible. He knows those facing homelessness may be more likely to ask for help if they think there’s someone on the other end who understands. [From VA News]
