Medina Ayala-Lo never imagined the 10-minute walk from her Brooklyn high school to the Marine Corps recruiting office would forever change her life. “I think my motivation for joining the military came down to practicality. I knew my mom couldn’t afford college and there wouldn’t be any scholarships, so I had to make a plan to do something with my life,” she said. [From VA News]

This month’s Center for Women Veterans Book Corner author is Army Veteran Shannon Huffman Polson, who served as an attack aviation officer and Apache pilot from 1993-2001. She wrote “The Grit Factor: Courage, Resilience and Leadership in the Most Male Dominated Organization in the World.” [From VA News]

If you shared your calendar with a friend, what they find a slot or scheduled time for play? Or just appointments, jobs and chores? Other than special events, it seems, we rarely put fun activities on our calendars. We think of fun as optional. Something to do after our chores are done. The problem is that our to-do lists grow like weeds—as soon as one chore is done, another pops up! [From VA News]
