For the 1st time, Marine expeditionary force gets a Woman top enlisted leader. Sgt. Maj. Kitashima assumed the role of sergeant major of III MEF Marines, one of the three main forces in the U.S. Marine Corps on Tuesday, according to a news release. [From Marine Corps Times]

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Marine Corps Veteran Ruth Cheney Streeter, who served as the first director of the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve. Col. Ruth Cheney Streeter served in the Marine Corps as the first director of the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve. She took up the positions in February 1943 after being rejected from flying organizations such as the Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron (WAFS) and the Women’s Flying Training Detachment, both organizations which preceded the Womens Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), and the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services. Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Marine Corps Veteran Carol A. Mutter, the first woman in the military to attain a three-star rank. Carol A. Mutter dedicated almost 32 years of her life to a career in the Marine Corps. Growing up on a sharecropping farm in Greeley, Colorado, Mutter eventually became the first female in the military to be nominated by the President for three-star rank. [From VA News]

Veterans are getting help filing claims for benefits and services they’ve earned at a series of local events nationwide. The PACT Act Awareness Events began on March 1, and they will continue throughout the month at VA Medical Centers at more than 70 locations, including Alaska and Puerto Rico. [From VA News]

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Gretchen Evans, who served 27 years and is now a motivational speaker and advocate for Veterans living with disabilities. Command Sgt. Maj., Gretchen Evans served worldwide in her deployments with the U.S. Army. Evans grew up in Abilene, Texas, and enlisted in the Army in September 1979 when she was 19. [From VA News]

Need to complete a Veteran-related form? Adobe has implemented new certificates that enable fillable Pordiv Document Format (PDF) forms in Adobe Reader. VA has replaced those certificates so that Veterans, VA staff, Veterans Service Organizations and other users can continue downloading and filling out needed forms from VA websites without interruption.
