The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary, Dennis McDonough, is focused on “LGBTQ Veterans, women Veterans, MST (military sexual trauma) survivors and more.” He delivered a heartfelt speech at The American Legion National Headquarters, 102nd National Convention covering many important topics – but specific to women Veterans said, “With the help of the Legion, we can help make VA a more welcoming place for LGBTQ Veterans, women Veterans, MST (military sexual trauma) survivors and more. For far too long, too many Veterans have fought to protect our rights and our freedoms. And then they’ve had to fight battles here at home for their own rights and their own freedoms.” During his visit he also stopped by the Center for Women Veterans, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs booth to discuss hard topics facing women Veterans with the CWV Global Outreach Manager, Ana Claudio. Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Air Force Veteran Mary Beth Aiello, who provided security at Ground Zero following the 9/11 attacks. Mary Beth Aiello was born in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1997, when she was 20 years old, Aiello joined the New York Air National Guard. [From VAntage Point]
