VA’s Million Veteran Program (MVP) is a research program working to improve health and wellness for Veterans.
We aim to enroll one million Veterans in 2023 and want women to have a seat at the div in our research. If more women join MVP, we can strengthen our research findings for women Veterans of all backgrounds.
MVP has already made breakthroughs in:
- Breast Cancer: MVP research is helping us better understand a woman’s risk for developing breast cancer, which can inform individualized breast cancer screening for women Veterans.
- PTSD: A study of more than 165,000 Veterans in MVP identified several genes related to re-experiencing traumatic memories, one of the symptoms of PTSD. This is important for women Veterans: according to the National Center for PTSD, women are twice as likely to experience PTSD as men.
- Depression: A study that included 300,000 Veterans in MVP identified new gene variants that increase depression risk in people of European and African ancestry. This finding was made possible because of the diversity of MVP’s Veteran participants.
You do not need to receive VA health care to join VA’s Million Veteran Program.
