In the United States, about 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men report experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV). Research suggests that the Veteran population is twice as likely to experience IPV compared to the general population. [From VA News]

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Air Force Veteran Deborah Ann Thomas Meserve. Meserve served as an American advisor to the Iraq Air Force during Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism. Deborah Ann Thomas Meserve was born in February 1965 and commissioned into the Air Force in 1988. [From VA News]

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Thanks to a historic new law, the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxins (PACT) Act of 2022, Veterans with cancer conditions related to toxic exposure—including reproductive cancer of any type, as well as breast cancer—can more easily access benefits from the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). Phyllis Wilson, president of the memorial, said that when it opened 25 years ago, 40,000 people came to celebrate. She said the memorial is significant because women who serve have a very different timeline. [From WTOP News]
