I think of stress as “an additional demand on our resources.” How much stress you experience is determined by how capable you believe you are at meeting the extra demands. An emergency savings account makes the car repair manageable, waiting for a day off can solve the time problem, and having close family makes it easy to arrange transportation. [From VA News]

VA is promoting an understanding of how various forms of violence, including domestic violence and intimate partner violence (IPV), intersect with labor and sex trafficking. Human trafficking is a crime involving the exploitation of an individual using force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or labor services. The Veteran community can also experience the negative impacts of human trafficking. [From VA News]

Army Veteran Pat Foote is today’s Veteran of the Day. Pat Foote was born in 1930 and took advantage of the changing world around her. She attended Wake Forest University only a few years after it began admitting women. [From VA News]

Marine Veteran Annika Hutsler is living her best life despite having her leg amputated in 2019. She’s bringing home silver medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter wheelchair races at the Warrior Games. She’s also competing in archery, wheelchair rugby, shooting, swimming, seated volleyball, and hopes to qualify in snowboarding at the 2026 Paralympic Games. [From Yahoo! News]

Welcoming a new baby into the world is an exciting time in a parent’s life but it can also be stressful. The Women Veterans program at Eastern Oklahoma VA is on a mission to help female Veterans by easing some of the stress that comes with caring for their new additions. [From VA News]

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Air Force Veteran Janice Adams. She served for over 24 years before founding JMA Solutions, a government consulting firm. Despite being a divorced mother living on welfare four decades ago, Janice Adams has led a life of accomplishment. [From VA News]

On October 29, 2022, Romay Davis turned 103-years old. She is the oldest surviving member of the “SixTripleEight.” Davis was born on October 29, 1919, and grew up in Virginia with her five brothers, all of whom served during World War II. When the war started, Davis worked for the United States Mint. In 1943, she enlisted into the Women’s Army Corps. [From VA News]

Army Veteran Dagmar Torres is today’s Veteran of the Day. Dagmar Torres Rodriguez was born in September 1976 in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, to Ana Rodriguez, a teacher, and Oscar Torres, a civil engineer, attorney, and Lieutenant Colonel in the Puerto Rico National Guard, in which he served for 27 years. In 1996, Torres joined the Army and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before moving to Fort Sam Houston, Texas, for advanced individual training. [From VA News]

G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA is ranked second amongst VA hospitals across the nation for timely breast cancer screenings. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a perfect time for a reminder about the importance of mammograms and early detection. Localized breast cancer has a 99% survival rate if detected early, and VA leads the nation’s health care systems in providing mammograms to those who need them. [From VA News]
