It is the middle of January… do you know where your resolution is? Every year we resolve to be a better version of ourselves. Resolutions are often health-related—such as losing weight, quitting smoking, or being more active. Army Veteran Leketia Webb has been on a 10-year journey to control her diabetes. She first noticed symptoms of always feeling thirsty and frequent urination, typical in a diabetic patient. She was initially diagnosed with insulin resistance and placed on medications, but her blood sugar levels did not improve leading to her diabetes diagnosis. [From VA News]

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Ashley L. Henderson-Huff, who served the United States during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ashley Laine Henderson-Huff was born on December 19, 1982, in Covington, Louisiana. She spent her childhood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before moving to Belle Mead, New Jersey, where she graduated from Montgomery High School. [From VA News]

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran Ann Coyer, who was one of the first military woman to be stationed in Antarctica. Ann Coyer was born in August 1935 in Lowville, New York. Her service in the military started when she joined the United States Naval Reserve (USNR) in June 1961. [From VA News]

One of VA’s top priorities is making sure that all Veterans have access to the good, steady jobs that they deserve. Unfortunately, data shows that women Veterans who served after 9/11 experience unemployment and underemployment at greater rates than their male counterparts and women Veterans of other eras. VA is fully committed to closing this employment gap for post-9/11 women Veterans, through a combination of targeted programs and supports that address both the causes and the outcomes. For Seyward McKinney, the journey from riding in military vehicles to riding horses was one fraught with adventure. Joining the Army was a calling, something McKinney realized she needed to do from the moment she took a school trip to New York City. She was active in school groups and found herself in New York prior to the events of 9/11. She was able to go back after 2001. [From VA News]

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Marine Corps Veteran Kirstie Ennis, who served in the Marine Corps from 2008 to 2014. Kirstie Ennis grew up with a strong connection to the U.S. military, as both of her parents served in the Marine Corps. With a desire to serve her country and follow in her parents’ footsteps, Ennis enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 17 in Pensacola, Florida, in August 2008. [From VA News]
