At VA, we are dedicated to supporting Veterans through all aspects of their breast cancer journey, from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Breast cancer ranks as the second most common cancer among women in the United States, following skin cancer, and within VA, it’s the most diagnosed cancer for women. Male Veterans are diagnosed with breast cancer at significantly higher rate than their civilian counterparts. [From VA News]

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women globally and is most frequently diagnosed in women between the ages of 35 and 44. Dr. Haley Moss is a gynecologic oncologist and the director of VA’s National TeleOncology’s Breast and Gynecologic Oncology System of Excellence program. The program is currently available at 82 VA facilities and provides support and resources to Veterans with breast or gynecologic cancer, which includes cervical cancer. [From VA News]

VA’s Under Secretary for Health, Dr. Shereef Elnahal, calls suicide prevention “our most important clinical priority.” In identifying the many factors that contribute to suicide, it becomes even more imperative to emphasize a less discussed and contributing risk: sexual violence. The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network describes “sexual violence” as an all-encompassing non-legal term that refers to crimes like sexual assault, rape, sexual abuse, military sexual trauma (MST) or intimate partner violence (IPV).
