James “Jim” Brown was born in February 1936 in St. Simons Island, Georgia. He attended Syracuse University, where he participated in ROTC and achieved All-American honors in lacrosse and football before being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1957. After graduation, he commissioned into the Army Reserve, serving four years simultaneously while playing in the NFL. In the NFL, Brown established himself as one of the greatest players of the era, and in NFL history. [From VA News]

VA’s Million Veteran Program (MVP) has the largest group of people with African ancestry of any research program in the world. This Black History Month, MVP wants to thank Veteran participants from different racial and ethnic backgrounds whose participation is helping to improve the future of Veteran health care.
