About 70% of Americans will need long term care at some point in their lives. Many Veterans and their loved ones think that VA will pay for all costs related to long term care. Actually, a Veteran’s eligibility for long term care is based on their service connected status, clinical need for care and services, and in some cases, availability of services.
Residential Settings and Nursing Homes have different eligibility requirements for each setting. The VA does not pay for room and board in residential settings such as Assisted Living or Adult Family Homes. However, you may receive some VA Home and Community Services while you are living in a residential setting.
